Jean/AZ ,

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I cried reading it, it was so touching

You and Your Family certainly sacrificed a lot  for This Great Country and Thankfully You Wave that Flag Proudly!

What a most interesting personal account  of one family, who sacrificed so many for their service .
I'm so proud you got  the marker and can visit the burial site. You must really be proud of them for all they give!
I know that locket means the world to you.
You must have wonderful Sons to be able to take you to see the graves and go to Baseball Games with. How wonderful!
I'm sure they love you very much. It must have been terribly hard on you, to have all that happen when you were so young.
You have every right to wave that grand ole Flag of the USA proudly! I can't imagine all your losses, but they were not in vain.

The only Military we lost was my Mother's Twin Sister lost her husband in World War II, she brought his body back and
he is buried with her, in the MS Church Cemetery. She worked at Fishers Aircraft Corp. putting Rivets on airplanes, In Memphis.
She was a "Rosie the Riveter" and they recounted this at her funeral three years ago.She never got to have children or never remarried. we were like her children, my Sister and I, so she left all her possessions to us. We gave his Purple Heart to his Brother's son , his son is a minister. we thought this was appropriate. Her husband was in the Army, only a Private, so young..
Another Uncle was in  World War II fought in Europe. he came back to his family, Thank God!He had a Military funeral In MS a few years back.

Jean/AZ, I know a bit what you mean about seeing the monument and breaking down. That is so sad..but so touching too.

I had no idea what it meant for families to vist the Vietnam wall in DC, but a few Years back, after my husband retired, we decided to go visit the Vietnam Wall, my husband had served on aircrew in Saigon and  when we walked up to that Wall, My husband teared up and said "I'm just glad my name isn't on there", we held one another and cried. So many guys 19 years old.
That wall really helped us heal a lot..I never knew if he would come back and it was terrible. I was so young and he was older.

Thank You for your Beautiful Post and Our Country Thanks Your Family for their Ultimate sacrifices
I will always think of You, when I hang my flag..

Elaine I remember your loss, It seems like just yesterday, times does seem to help in dealing with loss. It did for My mother too, after Dad Died My husband taught Mother to drive and she actually worked  until she retired. She had always been a Homemaker. ..After a long good life, she died November 2009, I was with her in MS.
I Hope everyone had a Niice July 4th to remember.. we always said to our children, "Let's go, make a memory!"
Yesterday we ate all day and watched the fireworks with our daughter and teens! Toby did a good show!

Wow, some touching memories! Thanks for sharing. I cried while reading about the lossed loved ones. I think we have all been touched throughout the years. I wish there was never WAR.

As far as Brad saying anything bad toward Alan, I hope not! I did not see the mentioned show so can't give a good opinion on that.

Wish I would have seen Toby and the tribute. Darn it!  We were at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee with our kids and grandkids. It was so much fun!

Anyway...it's super hot here in Indy again this week. Everyone take care and have a great summer.

Brenda,

So nice you had fun with your children and grands too! Making Memories is most important..Maybe they will show the Toby
over on the Nashville Country club , if I get an Email showing it, I will send you a link.. it may not be on , however..
My son and family were in that Nashville, TN Flood.. their home was damaged but now fixing it back, it takes time..

My Grand One got her braces today and she sent me a photo of herself on her computer to see her. She looks Beautiful.
She is a great student and so sweet.. grand mamma  here bragging too lol

Elaine we did enjoy the day.. It is going to be Hot Hot Hot here this week but then it usually is..You be sure to stay cool & hydrate before. One time I went outside not drinking water before and nearly got too hot. I had to run put water on my head from the fountain or I would have fainted, so now I hydrate before I go out..I'm using my treadmill now & watch TV.
Harriet, stay cool and I hope you are still improving. My hubby test was ok and goes back again soon.. do they ever end !

Stay cool everyone and Elaine I turn our air down at night.. I have it cold in daytime.. maybe you need only a light
cover at night. Leslie stay cool too and thanks..Take care Everyone!

grandchildren. They grow up way to fast.
Jeri I did enjoy the hot weather.Since I lost one
kidney I have to drink lots of water.I have been
doing that for a long time now. It became a habit
to drink lots.
It is going to be close to 100 today.Yesterday I
didn't need to use the a/c but I think today I
am going to need it.

It seems it's hot & humid everywhere.  We haven't reached 100 yet, but we are in the 90's & humid.   My arthritic hip is acting up with all this humidity.   OUCH!

Not much new here, just counting down the days to retirement - pretty much all I can think about now.  Only 16 more working days!!!  They still haven't brought anybody on board to take my place - I knew they would wait till the last minute and I will have to cram all the training into a few days.  Oh well, I can only do what I can do.

Hope you all are keep cool!

Very hot in Belgium +/- 100° !!! ... but i like it. My heart is doing well. I rode my bicycle this week and it feels good. Better than before! Don't worry ... i do it steady. Really enjoy the "Tour de France" on tv. Monday i went to the start of stage 2 in Brussels. I saw all my heroes very close and i took a lot off great pictures.
See that everybody is oké. Let's keep it so.

Coming in a little late, but never too late to say how much I love this country and what it means to me.

Jean/AZ, such a present from your brother.  I appreciate all of the servicemen and women who have served for our freedom.  What a sacrifice your family made.  Thank you.

My husband has been off this week.  We did go over to Pell City, AL to visit his family for a few days and to see friends.  Had a wonderful 4th.  Didn't see the fireworks.  I usually do, but didn't make it this year.

We have had hot temps and now the weather people are saying we're in a drought.  We've got a small garden and have been enjoying the cukes, tomatoes, and squash.  It's drying up even though I water it.

Thanks Harriet for congratulating the SC Gamecocks on winning the CWS.  What a game.  I'm glad they won.  Would have liked Clemson to have won, but the Gamecocks are from here also.  Actually my alma mater, but my blood runs orange.....

Jerri, thanks for remembering me.....Hello to Jean/B, Elaine, Nelle and the rest.....
Y'all have a great weekend.

Hello, AJ Friends,

Just stopping by here for a quick chat. I know, I should already have been in bed getting a good night sleep but I have to let you know a very unexpected event. . .and what a thrill it was for me. . .that took place early this evening and gave us some fun moments amidst all of the stresses we're going through. My hubby and I went to the Ford car dealership here in Newnan to look at 3 cars that were offered to us, via online, to choose from for a deal great enough for us not to be able to resist. The $2600 repairs we had done on our car earlier this year didn't last very long before we started hearing that familiar grinding/popping sort of sound from the engine again and it also has hesitated in more than 2 occasions. We finally decided, as much as we hated to start making monthly payments again on another car, to really look into buying another one. Late afternoon/early evening today, we did just that. . .it's a "new" used one - 2009 model. But that was not the thrill I got.

Going to the Ford car dealership, the connection of that place to Alan didn't even cross either of our minds. While signing the documents in the manager's office, the salesman that tended to us walked in and informed us that he had our license plates removed from our car and asked us if there's anything more in our now previous car that we need to remove. Then he said, "Oh, are you fans of Alan Jackson? I saw the 'Good Time' license plate at the front of your car, removed it and put in the trunk of your new car." Naturally, hubby pointed at me and how that was my idea to buy that license plate and put it on our car. The manager then fished out from her desk drawer a May 2003 issue of CW, I believe, featuring Alan on the cover with a picture inside of his desk at his little office at the very same Ford car dealership where he had worked at before venturing to Nashiville to fulfill a dream of becoming a country music singer. She then asked us if we had seen his office. I was so thrilled I couldn't contain myself going inside and looking at all his pictures there on the wall and the very desk he had used. . .it felt like I had just walked into a piece of country music history. OMG! I noticed also at least couple of newspaper or magazine clippings on the desk. But of course, we didn't have a camera with us. . .again! But I had hubby take my picture infront of a large what looked like a replica of a framed award he had received in the past. We're going back there tomorrow morning as they want to clean the car for us (remove all the sales stickers, etc.) and put in a full tank of gas. I'll have my camera with me and see if I'd be allowed to take more pictures from Alan's former office. . .LOL!

OK, gotta go to bed now. Will let you all know what happens tomorrow (Saturday). Take care everyone and have a great weekend.

Carolyn, welcome to the forum. Some of us gals here get overly crazy about our Alan every now and then and I'm a proof of that. :-)

HUGS and LOVE you all!

Hello. Alan Fans. Trying to get caught up here with you. I have Physical Therapy still going on & my rt eye is too dry & not getting enough oxygen but it is improving & I have to reduce wearing time on my contacts. But the biggest thing is my 2nd major procedure on my dental implants comes this coming Tuesday 7/!3. They will open my gums, attach abutments & put in a temporary bridge under conscious sedation & Novacine. I ask for your prayers that this will go well. So much going on these days- I'm a bit overwhelmed but my good Hubby is supporting me & I pray a lot.

Jean-AZ- I was inspired & uplifted by your story & I do support the troops wherever they are in the world.

JeanB- glad your heart is better. Enjoy the Tour de France.

Kathy- your arthritic hip & my arthritic low back & take a walk together.lol

Alanfan & Brenda- I can't imagine Brad saying something serious against Alan- he must have been joking- he has a quirky sense of humor.

Jeri- Thanks for the kind comments about Toby & the Boston Fireworks Spectacular. He did a wonderful job & he is a natural & loves an audience. That was a great program.

Kimberly- Big Congrats to The Netherlands- your big game is tomorrow.

BHR- What a neat surprise you got at the car dealer.

Nelle- I love the way you support Alan & wish you could see a concert.

Elaine- Tell Kelsey to drink lots of water & gatorade so she won't get heat stroke.

HariAJFAN
I agree with you that Brad would not say anything negative about Alan.  I think they are
friends and Brad is not a mean person at all.

Thanks for your comments. They are encouraging.
