ALPHARETTA – Alan Jackson's Freight Train Tour rolled into Alpharetta Saturday night to perform at Verizon Wireless' Encore Park. It was a perfect evening for an outdoor concert. The air was crisp and cool and stars filled the stage and sky.
The two opening acts Josh Turner and Chris Young did a great job priming the audience. But when the Newnan-born and Georgia raised Jackson hit the stage the near capacity crowd exploded.
The stoic Jackson played several cuts in support of his current album Freight Train, for which he penned 8 of the 12 songs. But it was his past number one hits such as his opening "Going Country" and "Five o'clock Somewhere" that sent the crowd into overdrive.
To say that Jackson is a megastar would be an understatement. Regardless if you enjoy country music or not you have to admire and respect an artist that in 20 short years has sold more than 50 million albums and produced 34 number one hits. All this out of guy from a small town in Georgia. What are the odds of that?
