This is an oldie by a Canadian artist named Jason Blaine. I heard it this morning on my way to town for groceries. Have any of you ever heard it ? The line "thinks Alan Jackson's King" caught me by the ear. Nice song, well written and performed.

He still combs his hair like Elvis
Pays cash for everything
and he'll only drive a Chevy and thinks Alan Jackson's King
He knows everyone by name at the local hardware store
They don't make 'em like that anymore
Up with the sun each mornin'
Hardly missed a day of work
Summer 1957 he helped build that Lutheran church
Believes a man should work all week but save Sunday for the Lord
They don't make 'em like that anymore
Standin' shoulder to shoulder with him now,
I still feel small
And I'm still lookin' up to him like he's ten feet tall
There's somethin' about that generation
These days I think we need 'em
More than we ever did before
But they don't make 'em like that anymore
He married his sweet Mary
June 1955
He goes on and on about her
Her casseroles, her clear blue eyes
He still helps her with her coat,
Still opens her car door
They don't make 'em like that anymore
Standin' shoulder to shoulder with him now,
I still feel small
And I'm still lookin' up to him like he's ten feet tall
There's somethin' about that generation
These days I think we need 'em
More than we ever did before
But they don't make 'em like that anymore
There's somethin' about that generation
These days I think we need 'em
More than we ever did before
Yeah that's for sure
But they don't make 'em like that anymore
He still combs his hair like Elvis
Pays cash for everything...

Hi.  I listened to that song. It's beautiful.  Wish there was more real true feeling in our Country songs now.  Alan Jackson is KING!!!  He puts real life feeling and truth in his writing and gets ignored on the radio plays all the time.  Makes you wonder about the DJ's, not the payola that goes on these days.

Thanks for finding that song.  It's beautiful.  I'm still trying to memorize some words to "Angels and Alcohol" CD.  I love: "When God Paints" and "You can Always Come home".  Not much play on the air for that either.  I guess that stuff is just not crude enough for the Rock Country that has taken over.  Thanks for sending.  Nice that author is from Canada.  So am I.  I'm waiting for Alan to come to The Palace of Auburn Hills or Casino Windsor because I'm handicapped and need the elevators.  You are a gem for letting us know of that song.
Thanks again,

A special song and it is beautiful.   Dad is a special generation.    Hope the artist can promote the song further.
It would be a hit of "our generation" with Alan as the King.    Thank you for sharing.
