First article I found online from countryweekly.com. He paid tribute to the late Jim Ed Brown (he originally recorded POP A TOP that Alan did a cover) who recently passed away of lung cancer.

It sure was great of Alan to do this. we saw Mr. Brown often and his voice was so
wonderful . he has left us too soon. So sorry to hear of his Passing.My Condolences to the Family.
