I've noticed that nobody has started a conversation here about this concert in Mineral, VA that was billed as a free concert during the voting event, so, I thought I'll try and give it a start. I have just read countryweekly.com's article on this, a shortened vesion of the news on this posted at the homepage, and the few comments that followed. Within the article is a linkage to the site where the tickets for this concert were sold and on that linked page are more comments from Alan's fans in Mineral who, just like the ones who posted comments at the countryweekly.com, express their utter disappointment and disgust at this concert getting turned into not a free concert afterall and I have to agree to what most has said.

Just like them, I, too, was under the impression that this will be a free concert, as billed, to help the people of Mineral have a moment to put their minds out of what and how the earthquake has affected them, the same way that Alan's concert free concert at West VA helped the folks there after the mine collapse disaster which took the lives of miners. I'm one of those who actually voted for the town of Mineral to win a free Alan concert and is one of those those right now feeling very disappointed at the turn of this event. Of course, I do undestand that trying to raise money to rebuild the school's auditorium is well and good cause, but, how about those fans who were counting on seeing Alan in concert, and maybe for the first time, and not having to spend so much money on it or at all? And how about those who really can't afford to even if the tickets were priced at a minimal amount? I wonder if there's something Alan could have done about it. Probably not, but, I agree with some of the commenters have said that there are other ways the leadership of that town could have gone about it and still have raised some money for their chosen cause.

I could say more but I'll stop right here and let the discussion begin. If you wish to put in your opinion on this, I highly recommend that you read first some of the comments posted at the link below (scroll down). What do you all think?

When Eventful started the voting for the FREE Alan Concert, my understanding was the Town/City that had the most votes, won the FREE Concert.  I did not understand that it had anything to do with any misfortune or natural disaster.

I truly feel bad, for the negative publicity this is causing Alan & his Band.

Thanks for responding, AJ#1COFAN. Yes, you're right that when Eventful started this free concert voting event it is just for Alan giving his fans from the winning town/city a chance to see him at this concert for free. However, just prior to this event the town of Mineral was hit by an earthquake with devastation at its aftermath. The town only have 490 population but won, with the help of other fans who live outside of Mineral or the state of VA itself, like me, accumulating over 31,000 votes. The mindset of these said fans who voted for Mineral was that this will at least give the victims of the earthquake's aftermath at least a moment of stress free fun time for themselves and get their minds off what they're facing, again, in the aftermath of the earthquake. I've read news articles that stated that the fans who voted for Mineral likened this to the free concert Alan gave for the families and friends of the the miners who died when a mine shaft collapsed in West VA. This whole thing is really a shame, in my opinion. . .and others that has commented on this from other sites.

I too am shocked at the outcome of this "vote".  I understood also that
the town/city with the most votes, won a FREE concert.  A lot of people voted
for this free concert and it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not to
mention this is not favorable to Alan, I wouldn 't think.
Hmm, makes you wonder doesn't it.

AJ#1COFAN, I've just read the new posted news at the homepage in this regards. Capitol Nashville will be releasing 3,000 free tickets for the fundraising concert and those who have already bought tickets also now have the option of getting a refund. Apparently, staff from Capitol Nashville visited Mineral, Va last fall, saw the devastation left by the earthquake they had and helped plan this fundraising event to help Louisa County High School rebuild faster than their 4 year plan. My guess is somewhere along the line there has been some miscommunication problem with regards to the tickets sale. Read it here:

Thanks for the update you posted. This has been really confusing but glad that the people/fans in Mineral, VA will get free tickets and see and enjoy Alan's concert. I wish them all well and loads of fun.

The money is going to a good cause to help rebuild the school   that was badly damaged   , kids have been in trailers since the earthquake for classes.
