Hello, AJ fans! Look who the cat just dragged in? :-) Haven't been here in a while. Just the usual hustle and bustle of the last couple of months or so with Halloween, Thanksgiving and now the Christmas holidays fast approaching. Won't bore you with all the details. Have to do some reading of the posts here so won't be able to answer any of your posts for now. This has been quite a week for us at home. My hubby caught a nasty cold with sinus congestion last weekend and was sick as a dog for 4 days. He still wasn't feeling too well when he went back to work Wednesday. On top of that, he also had tooth absess and was miserable from that too. Poor guy! His dentist gave him antibiotics and Codiene (sp?) for the pain. He's doing a lot better now and will either have the tooth pulled out or have a root canal procedure. I told him to just get it yank out. If that's what he'll have done, he's also going ahead and have tooth implant done.

Last Monday we finally had a maintenace guy come to our house and check our front door. We've been having problem locking it for months and we just had enough of it. The guy came by and fixed it. . .or so we thought. But he made it worse. . .it wouldn't lock at all. Closer check, we noticed that one of the screws on the bracket that he fixed was put in incorrectly. . .the head was partially sticking out. Our son fixed it. The next day the same door will not open and close properly. . .we had to pull it hard to open and slam it hard to close. Now, we don't know what the correlation is between the doorknob and the door sticking, but the maintenance guy replaced it and that fixed the problem.

They say troubles comes in three. Well, when my hubby came home from work last Wednesday I was sitting on the couch playing with my laptop computer. He leaned over my computer to give me his usual 'hello, I'm home!' kiss and his foot slipped. He fell on my computer and broke the monitor screen. The computer is still functioning. . .I'm using it right now, as a matter of fact. . .I just can't see/read anything on the screen. Our son helped me hook up my computer to an old 19 inch monitor we have and that's what I'm using for now. It's kind of weird and getting used to. We have made plans to get me a new cellphone. . .the battery on my current one is draining too fast and I can't get the voicemail to work. I also wanted to get an iPod iTouch. Now I have to decide whether I get either of those or a new laptop computer/iPad. Well, maybe Santa might be nice to me this Christmas?!? I have not been naughty this year. . .lol!

Ok, enough yakking for now. Susie, warm welcome to the forum! And to everyone. . . . . .

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BLESSED NEW YEAR 2012!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello together,
of the question of Sharon, if I'm Amerian or just like America. I'm Swiss. But when i was with my husband in 1990 my first time in the USA and bought my first CD from Alan, I was falling in love in this country and in Alan's voice.
If always I can, I spend my vacations in USA. Many friends ask us, why you don't emigrate to the USA ? That's not so easy. But it's ok like that. My husband and I have our own familybusiness in the 4th generation in St. Gallen. So we cannot go so simple. But we lives here our small dream of America. And our sons will be older and older, so we'll can go more and more for vacations to our loved America.
I wish you all a great day.
Greetings from the small Switzerland

Hello, Friends. It's a busy busy time of year. I have been found to be gluten- intolerant So I have to eat a gluten- free diet. It's not so easy because so many foods have gluten but I found a shelf in Kroger with gluten- free items. Gluten is not listed on the info on products so I am feeling my way along here. Does anyone of you know anything about this? I have read what I can find on the internet. But my GI doctor can't see me til Febrary So I am on my own right now.

Jeri- I have not started my cards either except the ones I send to other countries. Hubby has gone to the post office to mail them for me- he is as sweet as they come.

BHR- Well, you have had it by now. I'm glad your son could fix the door. When your hubby fell on your computer did he get hurt? Or just the computer. I know computer problems are a pain in the neck. My laptop is so slow so when I can get the desktop away from hunbby I use it- it is so fast. Hope there won't be any more problems for you. Tell hubby & sons hello for me.

Susanne- Loving the great compiments to our country. Hope you get to come back again & again. I fell in love with London when I was there & just felt like I belonged there. I was there for 10 days in 1990- have not been able  to go back. As a patriotic American I appreciate your love for our country.

Merry  Christmas Everyone.

Harriet,

My daughter checks for this, just to feed My Grands the best food possible. She uses "Whole Foods Stores" and "Trader Joe's" Health food stores also for some, but most supermarkets have gluten free spaces. you might ask the manager to see
where you usually buy yours. We shop at the Commisary, it's the Best one I have ever lived near and I trust the products
and meat. I eat a lot of gluten free myself. You can check online at your supermarket and see if they have Gluten free Products., or any store if not.. I Hope this helps some.

Susanne-

Thanks for the Compliments concerning our Country!

My husband has served in the Military and been in many countries and he still says "America is the Greatest Country!" naturally he would after defending it so long, but I Love our Beloved Country,Our Freedoms. I don't always like the way our politicians act but it could be worse. Perhaps Our love for Others, will bring us back to our Beloved ways, of working together. We should pay more attention to our Fore Fathers, our Constitution etc..They were very wise.

Alan loves this Country too( altho he doesn't get political)
Have you heard his "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?" it's beautiful Live in Concert!

Jinx,

She used "Trader Joe's when she lived in NY. Yes, They live in Jax and shop at "Whole Foods" or markets to get fresh veggies & fruit. Lately she's manager of a Business, so they eat on the go a lot! I really don't think Atlanta has a Trader Joe's either. Usually there's a section that is Gluten free in some grocery stores, but you have to look for them. Here it's
that way. Nice your daughter has one near her!
I love the Melbourne area of FL, they have little shops for everything. My sister , if she is due to take a dessert to
Church, only has to stop and pick it up the day before. She gets the best gormet Mango Chicken Salad and love, love the
desserts in the shops. we used to have "Sister's Tea room" but it has changed. we had tea there once and I'll never forget
my grand daughter telling me" Grand Ma ma I ate an orchid in here with my other grand mother" lol. we went for the Peanut butter pie, which I learned to make myself. It's  great for the kiddies that only eat sugar at special holidays!ha!

Loved the Amphitheatre in St Augustine.
I wish Alan had gone there in May, Melbourne is nice but further away to drive..It was costly a bit to sit on stage, but I'm sure I will enjoy being near Alan and The StrayHorns ha! I told my husband today we are going there in May, and he says" now what a nice Christmas Present for YOU!" lol he is wayyy funny..Love em Lots!

Gotta get back to my cards etc..still not yet decorated enough. My hubby had to visit a friend who had robot sugery for a lung surgery, he does have cancer and one lung already partly removed. a good Christian Guy and he's taking it well.say
prayers for him..He's a good guy and prayed for my husband when he had his pancreas problem.might better say one for him also, he is doing well now, but went though a rough time. we have been married so long, I could not imagine life without my hubby. This is Christmas and time to be Grateful and Happy. So let's All be HAPPY!
Merry Christmas Everyone! PS- My computer is offline and I'm on dialup, so slow. The guy has to come check it out next week. what a time for this to happen. I missed a lot of great sales for the children's goodies lol, my husband jinxed it to save money. I just know it ha! j/k I had a nice outfit picked out from Talbots that I has seen, it was a real steal..oh well
Be good or Santa is watching ha! see you posting ,when my computer is faster !

Hello, again, AJ friends!

Geeeez, I just can't get enough time to be on my computer these days. I finally went and got me my new cellphone, It's a HTC Thunderbolt (Smartphone) by Verizon. I'm loving it much more than the Blackberry I used to have though I'm still learning some of it's functions. Jerie, I'm like you, it takes me awhile too to learn all the stuff on the new cellphones. They are just too advance for me. I thought about getting an Iphone 4S but not liking what we've been reading and hearing about problems with some of its functions for web users. They calls it annoying quirks that sometimes goes beyond frustrating. They're also a bit more expensive. Still deciding whether to get a new computer or just have the monitor screen on my laptop replaced. The latter is cheaper but I'll be out of my computer if I do that as I will have to send my computer back to the manufacturer (AZUS) for them to replace it. The iPod iTouch has been put on hold for a little while longer. . .hopefully, not for too long, though. :-)

It's definitely wintertime here. Although there's no snow. . .yet, there's certainly chill in the air already. Sunday our high has been in the low 50s (F) and the low was in the high 30s (F). Brrrr....

Jerie, love the story about the accidental video shoot of your hubby. LOL! And, yea, that was some kiss from my hubby! You're too funny! LOL! Thanks for the laugh.

Harriet, my hubby was not hurt badly when he fell on my computer. He fell near one of the corners of my computer's lid/monitor (and bent it forward. . .didn't know it's that soft) and hit his ribcage. He just got a little sore there. Thanks for your concern and asking. Sorry to hear you have gluten intolerance. My hubby has been on gluten free diet, on and off, because of his pre-diabetic condition. One of the things you should avoid are foods that have wheat in it, in any shape or form, as wheat is gluten rich. I'm glad you found the gluten free products they have at Kroger's (I shop at Kroger's regularly). Some if not a lot of packaged/processed food packaging do list gluten in their ingrediets info but you just have to really look at the tiny printed list very closely (check online also for scientific term/s for it as that's what sometimes being used in the listings). I see it in some cereal products now too after it became a federal law requiring food manufacturers to include it along with nuts and other products such as eggs, etc. that are known to cause serious allergic reaction to some people. We tried the gluten free loaf of bread they have at Kroger's (freezer - natural food section) but didn't particularly cared for it. I also thought about Trader Joe's as we frequented that store when we were still in WA State. Check the map link  below for the store location in your area. There's one in your town but the closest to us is in Atlanta. Do check out that store.

 http://www.traderjoes.com/stores/index.asp

Whole Foods is another good suggestion from Jerie. You can also try ordering from online. I'll try and find some links for you. By the way, avoid any starchy/high carbohydrate content food as well. There are online sites that have good gluten free diet program and there are books on the gluten free diet available as well at retail/bookstores. Take care of yourself. Oh, I almost forgot. I'm so glad to hear the situation with your niece and her husband. I'm very happy for them.

JeanB, glad to hear you're feeling better. You take care of yourself too. You're right about my brother having a lot of work ahead of him tracing or family's genealogy. That is, if he even already got started with it. :-)

Susane, it's very interesting and refreshing to read your "falling in love with America" story and going at length buying products made in America for your home. I'm glad that you do and I thank you so much for that. What part of America you have been to that you like the best? And would you consider immigrating here in America when and if you can? Just curious.

Okay, I'm chatting away here again. It's waaaaay past my bedtime. I'm not even going to bother proofreading this, so, just please excuse any typos. Thanks. Take care everyone!

HUGS,
BHR

Hello BHR

I was already in many states. Washington, Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Georgia (in Newnan, I even made a photo with me and the "Alan Jackson Highway" sign), Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Hampshire.
My next desire is the middle of the country from Texas to Minnesota to be traveled. Where would I live gladly ? It pleased me everywhere very well. Since I'm the cowboy type. In my sparetime I'm wearing jeans, cowboyboots and my buckle is an America or a Southern State Flag, driving my Chevy Tahoe and in beautiful weather I drive my 1967 Mustang convertible.
I think, I would feel best in the Southern States. But where exactly, I don't know.

Have a good time.
Susanne
