What a shock it was when I heard Jack Layton, our NDP leader, passed away on Monday. When he announced that he had to fight a second cancer, he did not look well. But we did not expect him to go this fast. They had a State funeral for him today. It was on TV for two hours. It was very moving. When his son & daughter got up to speech, it was emotional. He was a wonderful man, in his private life and in the public. He cared about everyone. There was all kinds of music played at his funeral, but i just love the song Halleluyah, which was song by Barenaked Ladies frontman, Stephen Page. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Olivia, son & daughter Mike & Sarah, and his granddaughter, Beatrice.
Jack wrote in his final letter to Canadians:
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

Great job in letting our friends to the south of us know about Jack Layton. I watched the funeral too Anita. Very very sad and gone way too soon before his time. What a lovely man.

It is very hard to read of yet another wonderful person leaving this earth 'too soon' and leaving such a void, too. May the prayers and good will combine to honor him for a very long time, Anita.
As far as someone leaving too soon or too quickly, I read someone's thoughts this past week on that happening. The person wrote that if God hadn't taken her loved one that quickly, she knew 'that God didn't want to argue with her' when her son was taken unjustly (bad situation) and so quickly. It is another way to look at things, I guess.
