First post here...tried the search function but didn't seem to find an answer...so sorry if this is repeated discussion.

I realize Alan's record contract recently ended with the label he was on...and I guess that's why only 2 singles came out from Freight Train?  Or would that have been the case anyway since the greatest hits package came out at the end of the year?

I just thought more singles should have come from the album....I've been a big fan of Alan's music since I got into country music about ten years ago...and thought Freight Train was top-notch.  My favorite song from the album and very favorite ever from Alan was Tailights Blue (which I know was even listed as one of the featured songs on the sticker on the package...usualy meaning it was a planned single).

I know his last few singles didn't fair all that great on the charts (really liked Ring of Fire too, never even heard it once on the radio here)...but like I've seen others mention in other threads, I think alot of it has to do with politics and the radio stations catering to the younger crowd who want to hear the newer artists and all the pop music they play now.

I've also tried requesting Tailights but never heard it.  I've heard that some songs can generate unsolicited airplay by requests...maybee someday even if these songs never become singles they'll make it into regular circulation if enough people ask.

Dr.NickRiviera995,  Welcome to the Fan Club and the board.  I wish Tailight Blue had come out as a single also. I don't think that will happen. He could make a great album with songs that should have come out as singles. Take Care  nelle

Nelle, I could not agree with you more.   Love Taillights Blue and Where I Belong, but neither came out as a single.
YES, YES, a CD of songs that should have been released is a fantastic idea.   Probably more than one CD, eh?  Marian

WElcome to the AJ Fan Club Forum DrNickRiviera995 -

I really like a lot of Songs off "Freight Train" . I did hear "It's Just that way " play here a few times recently. with so many Young Singers that can't make it in the music Business, They seem to turn to Country Music, the good Singers are not getting the airplay they deserve. The thing is, the younger ones are tuned into their Mp3's and they are not listening to radio that much anyway..

Love so many from "Freight Train" and many could have been singles..

Alan is working on another album now, so he will be putting all his interests in that and other ventures I'm sure.

I remember the Day of the now Legends, and the older Singers were respected more. Now anything sells and is merchandised without any talents at times. Things always Change to grow, but this is one change I do not like much..
Radio airplay is all about YOUTH.. the DJs play it...My opinon only..

I agree, there were a lot more great songs on Freight Train. But since Alan is working on a new album I suppose the songs on it will be released in due time. Since he left Arista I'm not sure he could release more songs on Freight Train because that album belongs to them. I'm sure there will be many more great songs coming from a master songwriter like Alan.

Welcome, Dr Nick Riviera. Come back & post with us again.

I think you're right about the record company. Harriet.
One of my favorites on this album is "After 17".

It's weird but I have been hearing Hard Hat and a Hammer more now in Indy than when it was first released. Just happy to hear anything Alan!
